Rugged but elegant tableware
We spent ages in all the usual department stores trying to find ceramic tableware that appealed but importantly was available in a good range of types and sizes - eventually we gave up because one or more things we wanted was unavailable. Happily we then found the Monoware range and were immediately taken with the simple but elegant clean and rugged lines. We ordered the 20 piece dinner set plus quite a lot of separates, all in beige. We are very 'picky' regarding purchases like this, having owned a Denby 'Memories' ceramic set since the mid-80's which was originally blemish free. The Monoware appears to be made by a family pottery in Portugal in a facility that appears to be rather more basic than we presume existed with Denby all those years ago. We marked out about 10% of our order where we felt various blemishes and other defects did not meet the standard we had expected. Having drawn this to the attention of the Monoware MD, the response we received was simply excellent. Not only was the items we reported replaced with much better (in our view) examples but we were not asked to return any of the previous examples. Acceptional in our long experience!
We are now accustomed to our new tableware and very much like the look, the weight and the durability so far. A couple of practical things that might be of interest:
For microwaving and general use non-pvc clingfilm will simply not stick to the fine textured finish of the Monoware.
Perhaps it's just us but the straight sided…
